Round Up: Fondant Disney Birthday Cakes

Fondant: (n) an icing-like substance used to decorate cakes. Rolled fondant contains geletain and and food-grade glycerine, which keep the sugar pliable and creates a dough-like consistency. It can also be made using powdered sugar and melted marshmallows. Rolled fondant is rolled out like a pie crust and used to cover the cake. This gives the cakes a smooth appearance.

Fondant has a bit of a bad reputation, since it doesn't usually fall into the "yummy" category, but no other substance will give you such a smooth, professional look when it comes to cake decorating.

Of course, if you aren't a professional baker, you might not have a lot of experience with fondant. Having tried to do it once on my own, I can safely assure you that you don't want to be experimenting with fondant on the eve of your big party. In that instance, it's always safer to hire a professional.

Giveaway
Etsy shop bumble cakes provides fondant pieces that you can use to decorate your own cake, which is a cheaper option that achieves the same look. The fondant pieces are also easy to remove if you aren't a fan of the taste, which is a huge plus!

Today's giveaway is a $25 gift certificate to bumble cakes, good for anything in their store. To learn more about the business, check out their FB page or browse around their shop on Etsy. They also have jars of cake in the shop if you're looking for a sweet snack or gift to brighten someone's day...

To enter the giveaway, give me your favorite cake + frosting flavor combo. (Fresh fruit and all that counts if you prefer, I'm not much of a frosting eater either.) Leave your comment on this post and I'll announce the winner tomorrow, along with the new giveaway. Good luck!

P.S. Did you win yesterday's giveaway?

UPDATE: We have a winner!

LOVE all these cakes, especially the first with Princesses and the red Minnie one! I want one of those for my birthday cake :). My favorite cake and frosting combo would probably have to be my wedding cake...pink champagne cake with raspberry filling and cream cheese raspberry frosting.

I'm a hobby baker, I use marshmallow fondant pretty frequently. It's much tastier than the old school fondant, but you have to make it yourself. My fave cake/fronting combo is rad velvet cake w cream cheese frosting or yellow cake w choc frosting. It's too hard to pick one...

I absolutely love anything with peanut butter filling. I really like chocolate cake with peanut butter filling. I also like classic red velvet cakes with the cream cheese frosting and filling. My mom makes a great flan, vanilla cake and dulce de leche cake that is to die for!

I've always preferred Rice Crispy treats for my birthday. To spice it up I like to use Fruity Pebbles instead of Rice Crispies and flavored marshmallows instead of regular. And don't forget the sprinkles!

This is my all-time favorite cake and what I want to do for my wedding: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y24/gonehollyweird/259834_10100757803886855_12460293_64567208_3541577_n.jpg

But as for the cakes you have listed the mini mouse one is excellent. And I had fun with the first one as well.
